For the fourth straight year, Greenskies Renewable Energy has increased its share of the nation’s commercial and industrial solar energy market sector, according to Greentech Media, or GTM, the solar industry’s leading research firm and data tracker.

Greenskies had a 3 percent share of the commercial/industrial solar market in 2016, a .03 percent increase from its 2.9 percent market share in 2015, according to GTM’s annual solar market study. The market share percentages are based on megawatts of solar energy installed during the calendar year.

The average size of solar installations installed by Greenskies in 2016 was 387 kilowatts, according to the survey.

Greenskies had a 0.2 percent share of the national commercial market in 2013 and a 0.7 percent share the following year.

The Connecticut company’s share of the commercial industrial market ranked it fifth among the nation’s commercial solar providers in 2016, the same ranking it held in 2015. Greenskies was ranked first with the largest share of the commercial/industrial sector market for the first quarter of 2015.

“The fact that we have captured an increasingly larger share of the commercial and industrial segment over the past four years is a testament to Greenskies’ sustained and progressive growth across the past 48 months and a vivid illustration of our dedication, hard work and commitment to excellence,” said Will Herchel, Greenskies’ president. “I think the entire company should be very proud of this achievement.”

In determining how many megawatts of solar power a company installed during any given time period, GTM utilizes a complex set of inputs, including data from rebate programs, utilities, installers, developers, equipment suppliers, GTM research and Solar Market Insight reports compiled by the Solar Energy Industries Association, or SEIA, the U.S. trade association for solar energy and related businesses.

The GTM survey also ranked the number of kilowatts installed by commercial and industrial solar providers in several key states across the nation with high rates of solar energy activity. In those listings, Greenskies increased its output in California by 66 percent in 2016, jumping from 6.05 kilowatts installed in 2015 to 17.8 kilowatts; and by 5 percent in Arizona, climbing from 1,798 kilowatts installed to 1,885 kilowatts.

The company installed 4,874 kilowatts of solar energy in Massachusetts and 3,057 kilowatts in New York last year, according to the survey.

Greenskies designs, builds and maintains solar photovoltaic systems for commercial and industrial clients, municipalities and government agencies, educational institutions and utilities throughout the United States.
