MIDDLETOWN — Greenskies Renewable Energy LLC, a Middletown solar energy company, will build photovoltaic solar arrays on the roofs of four of the nine automobile dealerships owned and operated by Hoffman Auto Group, the two companies have announced.

The four rooftop projects will generate a total of 346.79 kilowatts of clean electric energy, said Andrew Chester, Greenskies’ executive vice president. Each installation will generate enough electricity to cover roughly 50 percent of the individual dealership’s total energy requirements.

The projects include a 65.88 kW installation on the roof of Hoffman Porsche, 630 Connecticut Blvd., East Hartford; an 83.27 kW array on the roof of the Hoffman Used Car SuperStore, 650 Connecticut Blvd., East Hartford; a 131.76 kW installation on the roof of Hoffman Honda, 40 Albany Tpke., West Simsbury; and a 65.88 kW on the roof of Hoffman Toyota Scion, 36 Albany Tpke., West Simsbury.

The projects, which will include a combined total of 1,137 solar panels, are currently in the engineering and permitting phases of development and are expected to be completed and operational by mid-November, Chester said.

A second phase that would install solar arrays atop the remainder of Hoffman’s 9 automobile dealerships and two auto body shop locations is currently being assessed, he said.

Greenskies is a 6-year-old company that designs, builds and maintains solar photovoltaic systems for corporate clients, municipalities and government agencies, educational institutions and utilities. The company currently has solar installations in operation and in various stages of development throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic States.

Solar installations designed and built by Greenskies have now produced more than 10 million kilowatt hours of electric power.
