Summary

The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of Greenskies' engineering organization. This executive-level role oversees all engineering functions supporting development, design, procurement, construction, and operations across the company's distributed generation and energy storage portfolio.

The VP of Engineering serves as the company's senior technical authority, driving engineering excellence while ensuring designs remain cost-competitive, scalable, and adaptable to evolving market conditions, codes, utility requirements, and customer demands. This leader is responsible for managing both internal engineering resources and third-party engineering partners, optimizing the balance between in-house capabilities and external consultants to maximize efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

The VP of Engineering reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is a key member of the EPC leadership team.

Engineering Leadership & Organizational Strategy

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a group of high-performing Project Engineers
  • Establish department goals, metrics, processes, and organizational structures that support company growth and strategic objectives
  • Develop workforce Eplanning strategies that effectively balance internal resources with outsourced engineering services to optimize cost, quality, and responsiveness
  • Build and maintain a network of engineering consultants, engineers of record, and specialty firms to support project delivery
  • Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement

Project Delivery & Design Management

  • Oversee engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility and indicative design through detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, and commissioning
  • Ensure all engineering packages are delivered on time, within budget, and to the appropriate level of quality
  • Drive engineering strategies that reduce project costs while maintaining quality, safety, reliability, and long-term performance
  • Provide milestone sign-off at critical stages of the project life cycle to ensure the quality and safety of delivered projects
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of indicative design processes that support business development efforts while maintaining cost and production assumptions that accurately reflect current market conditions
  • Partner with Development, Origination, Finance, and EPC teams to improve project viability, constructability, and profitability

Technical Leadership & Standards

  • Serve as the company's senior technical authority for solar PV, energy storage, and distributed generation engineering
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, design criteria, specifications, and preferred equipment selections for internal teams and external engineering partners
  • Monitor and interpret evolving national and local code requirements
  • Lead engineering responses to changing market dynamics, including modifications to structural design requirements, fire setbacks, equipment standards, and utility requirements
  • Support strategic procurement decisions through technical evaluation of suppliers and equipment manufacturers
  • Interface with lenders, investors, tax equity providers, and independent engineers during financing and due diligence processes

Qualificaitons

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or renewable energy
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and technical organizations
  • Deep knowledge of solar PV systems, distributed generation, utility interconnection, and energy infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of NEC, utility requirements, building codes, and industry engineering standards
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical excellence, cost competitiveness, and project execution requirements
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Physical ability to visit job sites and traverse uneven ground or climb a ladder
  • Strong bias for action and accountability
  • Data-driven decision maker with a focus on continuous improvement

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License and ability to provide engineering oversight and technical review
  • Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, and PVsyst
  • Experience with commercial and industrial solar, community solar, utility-scale solar, and/or battery energy storage systems
  • Experience supporting project finance, independent engineering reviews, tax equity diligence, or lender technical due diligence
