System Design Engineer

Summary

Greenskies is an industry leader in commercial and industrial solar and energy storage development in the U.S. with a diverse client base including Fortune 50 companies, investment-grade commercial off-takers, industrial, and municipal clients. Greenskies is looking to expand its technical bid team with the addition of a System Designer. The System Designer’s role will include but is not limited to, the design and development of solar PV and energy storage systems for construction and installation, evaluation of site conditions and infrastructure where assets may be installed, and development of project specifications needed for successful execution. The System Designer will be part of the Analytics & Design team (A&D) within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) department. A&D directly supports the Business Development team and plays a critical role in the development of all new systems proposals. The System Designer reports to the Manager of Analytics and Design. Greenskies is seeking an individual highly interested in the renewable energy industry with the potential to grow into other roles in the future.

Location: North Haven, Connecticut


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determine PV system characteristics and product selection that maximize generation and minimize costs to optimize value to the customer
  • Calculate PV system lifetime electricity generation estimates
  • Conduct on-site visits to assess site conditions and facility infrastructure for prospective installations
  • Create site-specific layouts detailing solar PV, energy storage, and other major equipment locations
  • Review building drawings, site plans, and other Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation
  • Understand building switchgear or utility distribution line tie-in electrical architecture
  • Understand and interpret codes that impact solar array and energy storage designs
  • Use GIS to incorporate site restrictions into layouts
  • Evaluate new PV technology and products for future incorporation

Qualifications:

  • Electrical and/or site design experience
  • Experience with and strong knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience interpreting topographic and survey maps
  • Four-year degree in a related field
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement detailed solutions to complex technical problems
  • Previous experience in solar PV and/or energy storage design is a plus
  • CAD certificate or equivalent experience is a plus
